Type of damages possible to electronic equipments

Soot damage: 

It is quite often seen that following a fire, certain equipment escapes the wrath of fire but are affected by the heat and soot. Soot being an electrical conductor causes severe malfunctions in the electronic equipments. The smoke deposits contain hydrochloric acid which also leads to corrosion of the metals. This corrosion results in electrical malfunctions which gradually destroy the hardware.

Water damage:

Damages to the electronic equipments by water can happen due to any of the following operations/ causes:

  • Water used for extinguishing fire

  • Ingress of flood/ rain water

  • Leakage from sprinkler installations

  • Seepage following overflowing of water tanks/ bursting of pipes

  • Accidental entry of water into the equipments resulting from the user’s negligence
The entry of water into the equipments can result in the following problems for the user:
  • Entry of the water while the equipment was in operation can result in hidden electrical damage and corrosion arising out of the electrochemical process

  • Residues of water often forms electrolytes leading to electrical malfunctions and destruction

Dust damage:

Accumulation of dust, a common feature in our country is a potential hazard for all electronic equipment. It causes material wear and tear and often produces contact failures in the equipments.

Fire damage:

The damages caused by direct effect of fire can often lead to irreparable damages to the electronic equipment. In such situations, the equipment becomes useless with no or very nominal salvage value.
