Risk Management for Electronic Equipment

Damage-Inducing Factors

Electronic equipment can also suffer severe damage from several factors

  • Fire and soot

  • Water and moisture residues

  • Contamination from smoke deposits

  • Corrosion

  • Dust accumulation

  • Corrosion caused by sea air

  • Acid spills

  • Oil contamination

  • Contaminants in the air conditioning system

  • Fluctuations in the voltage of the electric power supply

  • Lightning activity

It has been often seen that after an outbreak of loss-producing events, the user feels that his equipment has been damaged beyond repairs. After a fire, computers suffering heat and soot damages are often thought to be irreparable from their post-loss appearance.

However subsequent to testing by experts in the field, most of the equipment is found in working condition. It is possible to restore damaged equipment provided proper steps are taken during restoration and the job should be entrusted to an expert in the field.
